COVID-19 tests from now on at ADSI
The ADSI (Austrian Drug Screening Institute) of the University of Innsbruck was recently officially approved for COVID-19 tests by the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection. This means that COVID-19 tests for interested customers can now also be evaluated at ADSI. Samples for the Covid-19 test are taken directly from the customer by appointment using a safe oropharynx swab (throat swab), which is taken by trained doctors. The samples are then transported to the laboratory of the Austrian Drug Screening Institute (ADSI) and measured there using a certified RT-PCR test. The automated workflow enables fast test results within a few hours of the sample receipt in the laboratory. “We have set up a virus lab at ADSI and can thus help to increase test capacities in Tyrol. The ADSI has many years of experience with screenings, and our employees can transmit the results to all those tested within a few hours. This means that hundreds of samples can be processed every day, ”explains o. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Günther Bonn, managing director and scientific director of ADSI. In close cooperation with doctors and cell biologists, a complete screening platform based on certified RT-PCR analysis for the identification of Covid-19 infections has been established at ADSI. This test system is considered the gold standard among the COVID-19 tests. The so-called SARS-CoV-2 test is now available to all interested parties.
